How To Apply For Texas SNAP Benefits

The Texas SNAP program helps people buy the food they need for good health. People also can buy garden seeds with SNAP benefits. SNAP food benefits are put on to the Lone Star Card and can be used just like a credit card at any store that accepts SNAP. Who is it for?
- People who don't have a lot of money as long as they meet program rules
- Most adults age 18 to 49 with no children in the home can get SNAP for only 3 months in a 3-year period. The benefit period might be longer if the person works at least 20 hours a week or is in a job or training program. Some adults might not have to work to get benefits, such as those who have a disability or are pregnant

Before you apply, you can first see what benefits you qualify for by using their online pre-screening tool. Do note, this is not an application, it simply determines what benefit you qualify for. You can apply for Texas SNAP benefits online at YourTexasBenefits.com. Once you are on that site the next step is to click the "Apply" tab and then click "Apply Now". From there you must log in or create an account.

The other option is to fill out a paper application. If you can't use YourTexasBenefits.com, you can print the form and fill it out by hand. From there you will need to mail them a signed and dated copy of the form. To download a copy of the Texas SNAP application, or have one mailed to you, go to YourTexasBenefits.com. Click on "Get a Paper Form" at the bottom of the page. Click "Download" to print or click "Send by Mail" for forms you want mailed to you.
